ABOUT THIS

  This blog aims to be a tool  to improve the pronunciation of the English language.  You will find subtitled videos, tips and suggestions  of fun activities to enjoy this practice. Pronunciation as a Speaking micro-skill is based on three fundamental elements: stress, pitch, gestures. Stress Jordán et al. (2019, p.31) explains that stress is the “ intensity given to a syllable of speech by special effort in utterance, resulting in relative loudness”. According to Yates (2002a), explains that stress is important at three different levels: Word level : Multisyllabic words have one or more syllables that are stressed Sentence level : The most important words tend to be stressed Contrastive stress : The most important words carry greater stress   Pitch Muñoz (2016b, p.18) explains that pitch is “the melody that complements the speech” Pitch changes according to the expression and meaning that is issued. ACTIVITY 1 Monologue: Mom, I need you. Pronunciation Focus : Stress   Warm-up For this activity, you can divide the students into small groups. Write a few sentences of the monologue, the words of the monologue should be in random order. The first group or student to unscramble the sentences and read the sentence aloud correctly wins that round.   Extensive viewing Invite students to watch the monologue at home and then record themselves performing it. Ask the students to take care of the stress of the words.
